3+3 Law (Maine Law Pathway)

New 3+3 law degree program provides significant savings, expedited track to law school while working to increase number of attorneys practicing in Maine

In an effort to prepare the next generation of attorneys for positions that need to be filled in Aroostook County, officials with the University of Maine School of Law and the University of Maine at Presque Isle signed an agreement providing an Accelerated Law Pathway for 91��ɫ students.

As part of this unique 3+3 law degree program, students in specific majors can study at 91��ɫ for 3 years, and then apply for admission to the Juris Doctor program at the University of Maine School of Law. If accepted, they can transfer to the Portland campus to finish their final year from 91��ɫ at the same time that they complete their first year of law school. Right now, this opportunity is available to students in 91��ɫ’s Business program, but is expected to expand to other programs soon.

The Human Services Minor at the University of Maine at Presque Isle (91��ɫ) provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the human services field, equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to support and improve the well-being of individuals, families, and communities. This minor integrates theoretical and practical learning experiences, focusing on various aspects such as human behavior, social policies, and service delivery systems. Students gain insights into the challenges faced by different populations and learn to design and implement effective interventions and support mechanisms.

A certification in Human Services provides students with general knowledge and skills to work in a diverse range of human and social service organizations. Why Study Philosophy at 91��ɫ?

“Philosophy,” translated from the Greek, means a “love of wisdom.” The Philosophy Minor at 91��ɫ is an interdisciplinary program designed both as an important contribution to a liberal education and for those wishing to interrogate further what “philosophy” has come to mean to us today: understanding the nature of knowledge, thought, values, and reality. Our lower level course offerings, and most of our more advanced classes, are designed to be of interest to students reflective about their beliefs or those who wish to become so. The basic principle of reasoned inquiry are useful for nearly whatever subject you wish to pursue as a major, whether it be English, History, Political Science, law, or medicine. Most importantly, however, the study of philosophy looks beyond obtaining employment after graduation, finding its value in a range of thought and action that you develop and enjoy long after your formal studies might be completed.

Many of our students take only one or two philosophy courses, while majoring in other programs. They find a study of basic philosophical ideas and principles enriches their general education and adds a dimension of understanding to courses in their major program. Classes such as “Introduction to Philosophy” and “Introduction to Ethics” are especially designed to address students from all majors and programs. Furthermore, students often find that philosophy courses give them a deeper understanding of contemporary social issues, such as biomedical, business, interpersonal, and technological ethics. These issues find reflection in courses such as “Social Theory,” “Aesthetics,” and “Literary Theory and Critical Practice.”
